Hello there! My name is Cale Vallum. I created the Whale Flute after my own season of loss. After my grandmother passed away about 10 years ago, and several friends passed away during the pandemic and in it's aftermath... I wanted to create something that would channel my own grief in a positive way, as well as help others. It's fluctuation between light and deep, resonant tones became a way to hold what words couldn’t say. Now I want to share that comfort. Every month I will give away one free flute to someone who shares their story of grief, loss, or healing. Share your own experience of grief below and enter the giveaway. I will choose one or two experiences, share them on my channel with your permission. And send you one of these beautiful instruments at no cost to you. If you would like to contribute more fully to my cause, there is a link to purchase one down further on this page, with more about how to play it.

Understand this is not therapy or counseling. This is just a way for me to help the grieving or those experiencing loss with my limited experience.
I named this instrument "The Whale Flute" because several people told me it sounds like Whales singing. (It is also named the Yooyl).
I discovered that people listen to recordings of this underwater music to relax and enter a mindful state. Something I know will especially help the grieving. Each Whale Flute is hand-built from reclaimed materials, with a spring reverb chamber for deep echo and a flexible hose for tone control. Blow gently or firmly and adjust the hose to discover your own unique sounds.
